BB: I'm a computer dork who spends way too much time in front of one, who occasionally plays guitar and likes to eat out.

Where are you from?
San Jose, California

Design education:
None

What was your first experience with flash?
I actually found a flash 3 CD at a party. I installed it on my PII 233 and played around with it for a few days before I even realized what I had.

How important is actionscript for the flash designer?
To a designer? Not important at all.

What inspires you to create?
Sheer boredom...and other people's art that is better than I could ever be.

Your new site nearly knocked me off my seat its pretty amazing stuff. What types of software do you currently use to produce such work?
Mainly 3DS max and After FX.

You get a lot of attention for your talents, and it's well deserved. Can you share with us your feelings on your success:
I think gaining attention...and success...are 2 separate things. I prefer the latter.

I remember seeing your site in the forums of Flashkit. Since then your style and technique has improved a 100%. What pushes you to take your skills to another level?
I don't think I'm ever satisfied with the level of skill I have. I always want to currently be better than I am.

With broadband a household necessity do you still think it's important to cater to dial-up and 56k users?
I think different developers want different things. If one plans to reach a broad audience then catering to dial up users is important. If all you care about is your art, then it's not as important.

Besides Spam, and pop-ups what do you dislike about the Internet?
I'm ok with popups. They help keep the Internet "free". I think the Internet is great...no complaints from me.

How would you explain a flash website that's overused?
I think if any part of a site feels "forced", where the creator went with something that didn't seem to naturally work, then flash has been overused.

Do you prefer technologically advanced sites or sites with simple but good design?
I like cool sites, whether they are advanced, or simple makes no difference to me. I think good taste is the most important factor.

What do you see in the future for Flash and other Macromedia products?
Big change

What do you think is more important in today's Graphic Design industry, design education or artistic qualities? Choose one then explain:
Education means almost zero. If you're good...you're good.

The transitions of your website are very smooth and fluent, is it done with tweens or just pure actionscript?
The main timeline is controlled by a very simple script. There are no tweens.

How would you like to be remembered?
As someone who did their best and made some stuff that was pretty cool.

Any new projects coming up that you can tell us about?
I have a few cool projects coming up that I will release ASAP...until then I can't talk about them.

What's your all time favorite (non-PC) video game:
Final Fantasy VII...I cried when I finally defeated Sephiroth.

Final comments:
" To Alcohol, the cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems!"

“A little while after the release of the first tokyoplastic; it was getting 40,000 hits a day, which was very surprising and cool and made us happy and we received a lot of enquiries from potential clients. Prior commitments meant that it took a whole year just to get to the position where we were able to start accepting the offers.”

“Style is a good thing - but if anything I would like to be as diverse as possible - stylistically. To corner oneself into a certain style only means that one is limited. It's the age-old debate over specialization versus generalization. I find that as a designer - if a client were to present a problem to me, I need to be fully capable of solving that problem in any way possible..”

“I've just been drawing like mad since I was two feet tall, and haven't stopped. When I was younger I was really into cartoons (I'm sure most kids were), and I used to sit in front of the TV for hours drawing what I saw. Then I started making my own characters and drew them in scenarios with the characters I saw in TV. Then I discovered comics and it was all over, ALL of my money went towards those for
the next 8 years....”
